- Rice vinegar: ¼ cup
- Sugar: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: ½ teaspoon
- Nori seaweed sheets – 5 sheets
- Fresh fish salmon or tuna – ½ pound (optional)
- Imitation crab sticks: ½ cup shredded
- Cucumber: 1 julienned
- Avocado: 1 sliced
- Carrot: 1 julienned
- Cream cheese optional – ¼ cup

Step 1: Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Combine the rice and water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Gently fold it into the cooked rice. Let it cool to room temperature.
Step 2: Prepare the Fillings
Slice fresh fish, avocado, cucumber, and carrots into thin strips.
If using imitation crab, shred it into small pieces.
Have your nori sheets and other ingredients ready for rolling.
Step 3: Assemble the Sushi Rolls
Place a bamboo sushi mat on a flat surface and cover it with plastic wrap.
Lay a sheet of nori on the mat, rough side up.
Wet your hands with water and spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving about 1 inch uncovered at the top.
Arrange your chosen fillings horizontally across the center of the rice.
Step 4: Roll the Sushi
Lift the edge of the bamboo mat and gently roll it forward, pressing slightly to keep the roll tight.
Continue rolling until the uncovered edge of the nori seals the roll.
Use a sharp knife to cut the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Arrange the sushi rolls on a plate.
Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi.
Enjoy your homemade sushi!
