Ingredients
  

  • 1 package phyllo dough about 20 sheets
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 ½ cups almonds finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions
 

Preheat oven to:

  • 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the nut mixture:

  • In a bowl, combine chopped almonds, cinnamon, and sugar.

Layer phyllo dough:

  • Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish, then brush with butter. Repeat with 6-8 sheets.

Add filling:

  • Spread a layer of almond mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.

Continue layering:

  • Repeat the layering of phyllo dough and almond filling. Finish with a top layer of phyllo dough (about 6-8 sheets).

Cut and bake:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden and crisp.

Make honey syrup:

  • In a saucepan, combine honey, water, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.

Finish the baklava:

  • Once the baklava is baked, pour the hot honey syrup over the hot baklava. Let it cool completely before serving.
