Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Filling:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, grated cheese, salt, pepper, and any optional add-ins like spinach or spices.
  • Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Roll Out the Puff Pastry:

  • Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet to a rectangular shape.
  • Ensure the pastry is smooth and even for easy assembly.

Assemble the Jalousie:

  • Spoon the chicken and cheese mixture evenly onto one half of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  • Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing them together with a fork.

Add Ventilation Slits:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut a few slits on the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.

Brush with Egg Wash:

  • Lightly brush the entire surface of the pastry with the egg wash to achieve a golden, glossy finish.

Bake to Perfection:

  • Transfer the assembled jalousie to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Cool and Serve:

  • Remove from the oven and let the jalousie cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve warm as an appetizer, snack, or light meal.
